Ziwa Campsite is located inside Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch in Nakasongola District, north-central Uganda. The ranch sits just off the main Kampala–Gulu highway (A109), with access via a turn at Nakitoma Trading Centre followed by a short murram road of roughly seven kilometres to the visitor centre and campsite. This position on Uganda's primary northern route makes the sanctuary one of the most convenient wildlife stops between the capital and Murchison Falls National Park.
For travellers heading north from Kampala or Entebbe, Ziwa lies approximately 176 kilometres from the city — a drive of around three hours in normal conditions. The tarmacked highway passes through Luwero and Nakasongola before reaching the Nakitoma turn-off; from there, a 4×4 is advisable during heavy rains, though the access road is routinely used by safari vehicles and self-drive visitors throughout the year.

Most visitors reach Ziwa Campsite by road from Kampala, with Entebbe adding roughly one hour depending on traffic through the capital. The sanctuary's location roughly halfway to Murchison Falls makes it a natural break point on the journey, allowing travellers to track rhinos and overnight at the campsite rather than completing the full five- to six-hour drive to the park in a single day.
Distance from Murchison Falls National Park
From Ziwa, the southern approaches to Murchison Falls National Park — including routes via Masindi and the Kichumbanyobo area — lie approximately 85 to 100 kilometres north, typically two to two and a half hours by road. This makes an overnight at Ziwa Campsite an excellent first or last night on a combined Ziwa–Murchison itinerary, with rhino tracking on one day and savannah game viewing the next.
Distance from Masindi and Gulu
Masindi town, the main gateway to Murchison Falls from the south, lies roughly 70 to 80 kilometres north-west of Ziwa — about one and a half hours by road. Gulu, further north on the same highway, is approximately 150 kilometres from the sanctuary. Travellers approaching from either direction will pass Nakitoma Trading Centre on the Kampala–Gulu road.
