Official UWA Launch Cruise Fees
Under the current UWA conservation tariff, the standard launch cruise costs US$30 per person for foreign non-residents, US$25 for foreign residents, US$20 for rest-of-Africa visitors, and UGX 30,000 for East African citizens. The fee covers the upstream trip from Paraa to the base of the falls and back — approximately two hours on the water.
These rates apply to UWA boats only and exclude park entrance. Foreign non-residents pay a separate US$45 per adult per 24 hours (Category A+ entry) before any activity. UWA’s African Queen double-decker carries up to 45 passengers, with scheduled departures from the northern-bank Paraa jetty at 9:00 and 14:00.
Minimum Charges and School Groups
When scheduled departures fail to fill, UWA applies a minimum boat charge of US$120 for foreign visitors and UGX 120,000 for East African citizens, calculated for eight persons on small boats. Larger vessels carry a minimum equivalent to 15 passengers. In peak season, shared launches usually run with enough passengers that you pay the per-person rate — but solo travellers in the shoulder months should confirm departure status with UWA or their lodge.
School groups pay UGX 450,000 per group or UGX 15,000 per pupil under the published tariff.
Operator Prices: UWA, Paraa Safari Lodge and Wild Frontiers
Three operators run scheduled upstream launches on the same roughly 17 km route to the Fajao Gorge, at slightly different prices.
UWA (north bank) charges the official US$30 tariff — the most economical scheduled option and the one most group tours include. Paraa Safari Lodge (Marasa Africa), also on the north bank, runs a Kingfisher boat for around US$28 per person. Wild Frontiers operates from the south bank near the old Paraa ferry jetty, charging around US$35 per person with child discounts, using a 16-seater Alligator and a smaller Kingfisher.

Albert Delta Cruise Fees
The delta cruise is a separate product — downstream through papyrus channels towards Lake Albert, typically four to five hours, and the park’s best organised route for shoebill stork in the Albert Delta Ramsar wetland.
Wild Frontiers operates delta trips from the south-bank Paraa jetty at around US$55 per adult, subject to minimum numbers. Morning departures are typically at 07:00 and afternoon trips at 14:00, with breakfast-on-board options when numbers allow. Private Boat Hire and Sundowner Cruises
Private boats are priced per vessel, not per person — typically US$270 to US$325, depending on boat type, capacity and trip length. A couple chartering privately at US$325 pays US$162.50 each, often competitive with near-empty scheduled launches subject to minimum charges.
Private hire buys your departure time and the freedom to linger at bee-eater colonies or hippo pods. Wild Frontiers and Paraa Safari Lodge both offer upstream charters; Wild Frontiers also runs private delta trips. Sundowner cruises depart around 15:00 with drinks and snacks included — a premium over standard scheduled fees, popular with photographers chasing golden light at the falls.
What Else to Budget For
Stack these alongside launch fees: park entrance at US$45 per foreign non-resident adult per 24 hours; the Top of the Falls hike at US$15 if the boat drops you at the gorge base to climb to the viewpoint; and tips of US$5–10 per person for a good ranger on a shared launch.
A realistic single-afternoon minimum for a foreign non-resident is park entry US$45 plus launch US$30 — roughly US$75 in official fees before transport or operator mark-ups.
