Exact Location
Pakuba Safari Lodge lies fully inside Murchison Falls National Park, on the northern bank of the Nile as the river flows towards Lake Albert. The setting is riverfront savannah: grass-thatched cottages on raised platforms overlook the Albert Nile, with distant hills and open plains beyond. Because the lodge and the main northern game circuits sit on the same side of the Victoria Nile, guests reach prime wildlife areas without crossing Paraa Bridge — a meaningful time saving on every game drive.
Pakuba Airstrip and Fly-In Access
Pakuba Airstrip is the lodge's nearest air gateway, located just minutes away by road. Scheduled domestic flights from Entebbe International Airport are operated by Aerolink Uganda and Bar Aviation Uganda, with typical afternoon arrivals that allow same-day check-in. Pakuba is one of the most fly-in-friendly lodges in the park, and the airstrip also supports onward connections towards Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and other bush destinations for multi-park itineraries.
Road Access
Most overland guests reach Pakuba via the northern approach through Karuma and Pakwach, often stopping at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary en route. From Entebbe or Kampala, the journey commonly takes five to six hours depending on road conditions and stops. The lodge is also accessible from Gulu, Arua, and the wider West Nile region, making it a natural choice for travellers exploring northern Uganda. Self-drive visitors and safari groups should confirm gate times and park entry requirements with their operator before arrival.
Nearby Park Areas
From Pakuba, guests can quickly reach the northern Buligi game-viewing grid, Nile boat landings at Paraa for cruises to the base of Murchison Falls, the top of the falls viewpoint, and the Nile Delta route towards Lake Albert. Budongo Forest, for chimpanzee tracking, lies within a longer day excursion to the south of the conservation area. The lodge's inside-park position means guests are already immersed in the safari environment before the first scheduled activity begins.
Why the Location Matters
Location is often the deciding factor when choosing Murchison Falls accommodation. Properties far outside the park add transfer time; southern-bank lodges require crossing at Paraa Bridge before northern game drives. Pakuba avoids both constraints. Combined with wildlife that regularly visits the lodge grounds — elephants, giraffes, hippos, and antelope are frequently seen from verandas — the setting delivers the wilderness immersion and logistical efficiency that mid-range safari travellers value most.
