From lodges near Sipi village — about 10 kilometres north-east of Kapchorwa — you descend through Sironko toward Kumi, then join the Tororo–Mbale–Soroti corridor. Alternative routes worth knowing

Travellers who want rhino tracking can swing south from Kamdini through Masindi — adding roughly 150 kilometres — to reach Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary before entering via Kichumbanyobo Gate, about 85 kilometres from Masindi to Paraa through Budongo Forest. Since the Paraa Bridge opened in February 2021, most vehicles cross the Nile by road. Check road advisories on the Kamdini–Karuma section before travel — heavy rain has occasionally diverted traffic through Gulu.

What to do at Sipi before you leave

Sipi Falls consists of three main cascades just outside Mount Elgon National Park — the upper fall drops roughly 95 to 100 metres over basalt cliffs, with Ngasire and the middle fall along a trail through Arabica coffee farms. The classic circuit takes three to four hours; local guides charge roughly US$10 to 25. Schedule the hike on your last full morning at Sipi, not on transfer day. Attempting Sipi to Paraa after a morning waterfall hike rarely works. Plan at least two full nights at Murchison after the transfer; fly-out guests can connect from Pakuba Airstrip on Aerolink when dates align.

Best time for the transfer

Dry seasons from June to September and December to February firm up the Soroti–Lira–Kamdini tarmac and keep Sironko district roads passable. Sipi views are clearest in these months, and wildlife concentrates along the Nile banks at Murchison.
