Sunday starts with a dawn crossing via the Paraa Bridge (opened February 2021) to Buligi for lion, elephant and Nubian giraffe — the world’s largest remaining wild population, estimated at roughly 2,250 individuals. Day 1: Depart Entebbe or Kampala early, optionally stopping at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary — about 176 kilometres north on the Gulu Highway, turn-off at Nakitoma Trading Centre. Rhino trekking on foot with rangers takes roughly 90 minutes to two hours; entry including the trek costs around US$60 for foreign non-residents. Continue to Murchison, enter at Kichumbanyobo, and reach your lodge by late afternoon. Some operators visit the Top of the Falls on arrival if daylight permits.
Day 2: Cross to the northern bank at first light — park gates open at 07:00 — for a game drive on Buligi’s 120 to 170 kilometres of tracks. UWA ranger guides cost around US$25 per half-day and materially improve predator tracking. Return for brunch, then board the afternoon launch from Paraa Jetty for the two-to-three-hour cruise upstream past hippo pods and Nile crocodiles toward the base of the falls, where the entire river forces through a gap barely six metres wide before dropping 43 metres. Many guests disembark below the falls and hike 45 to 60 minutes through Fajao Gorge to the cliff-top viewpoint (around US$15).

Option B: chimpanzee tracking at Kaniyo Pabidi in Budongo Forest, around US$130 per permit. A focused three-day fly-in might run: Day 1 — morning flight, afternoon delta or falls cruise; Day 2 — dawn Buligi drive and launch cruise; Day 3 — morning game drive, afternoon flight out. The two dry windows — roughly December to February and June to September — deliver the firmest murram tracks on Buligi and the most predictable wildlife around the Nile. July, August and Christmas week fill lodges and launch cruises quickly; book three to six months ahead. Wetter months from March to May and October to November bring lush scenery, breeding birds and lighter vehicle pressure, though afternoon showers can delay delta cruises.
