Uganda Safari Learning Center
The Uganda Safari Learning Center is structured education for travellers who want to understand how safaris here work before spending money on permits and lodges. Uganda is not a drive-through park system like Kruger — permits, ferry crossings, trekking rules and seasonal road conditions all affect what is possible on your dates.
Work through the modules below in any order; together they cover the knowledge our guides expect first-time guests to learn during the first day on the road.
Module 1: Uganda’s Park System
Ten national parks managed by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), plus wildlife reserves like Budongo (chimps) and Ziwa (rhinos). Each has daily entry fees — Murchison US$45, most savannah parks US$40 for foreign non-residents. Fees are per 24 hours, not per entry. Activities (boat US$30 at Murchison, ranger US$25) are separate.
Murchison Falls is the largest and best single-park introduction. National parks guide covers all ten.
Module 2: Primates and Permits
Gorilla permit US$800 (US$600 April, May, November) — 15+ age only, one hour with habituated family. Chimp Kibale US$250, Budongo US$130. Habituation experiences longer and pricier. Permits are non-refundable and date-specific — book before lodges.

Module 3: Seasons and Wildlife Behaviour
Dry seasons June–September and December–February: animals at water, firm roads, peak prices. Wet seasons greener, quieter, 4×4 essential on northern Murchison tracks. Boat cruises run year-round. Gorilla treks run in rain — trails muddier, not cancelled.

Module 4: Transport Logic
Entebbe–Murchison 6–7 hours road. Paraa ferry links north-south banks for game drives. Fly Pakuba/Bugungu saves two days on short trips. Charter Kihihi for Bwindi. Never schedule gorilla trek on departure day.

Module 5: Health and Safety
Malaria prophylaxis in low-lying parks. Yellow fever certificate often checked. Stay in vehicles on game drives; follow ranger instructions on treks. Travel insurance with evacuation cover recommended.
